The cooling spiral: the conditioning process, not just conveying
Unlike the spiral conveyor, whose role is to transport products between levels, the spiral cooling system is a process piece of equipment. Its role is to bring the product from the oven-exit temperature to the temperature suitable for packaging, within a controlled time interval. The helical route allows a long belt length to be concentrated in a small ground footprint, exactly what is needed to achieve the retention time required by the process.
The spiral structure can be enclosed in an insulated housing and equipped with a ventilation and cooling system, to control the air circulation around the product. The belt is chosen according to the product — food-approved plastic modular or stainless — and the diameter, number of turns and belt width are sized from the line cadence, the product dimensions and the required cooling time.
